Lateral linking with AI
What made the web revolutionary wasn't infinite scrolling or viral vertical videos, but the humble hyperlink. The "H" in HTTP and HTML stands for hypertext, remember? It's hard to imagine the impact of following links from one site to the next, without technical hurdles. It opened the world! I'd venture out into the wild world wide web. Wandering. Sometimes bored or confused. Other times captivated.
Now that AI changes everything, how can it improve links? A few things have always bugged me. Link rot: a once perfect list of links now leads to 404 pages. Spam bots fill my forum with links intended for search bots. Worst of all: no links. My notes end up on a big pile, which I'll definitely organize one day.
Surely AI can help me keep track of what I wrote. It can find related stories, posted by me, or my friends, way back. AI generated associations could add meaning and relevance. Social media serves unrelated content on an endless timeline, but it doesn't need to work like that. AI can help us rediscover good old hypertext!
Now I just happen to be working on software that does exactly that. Bet you didn't see that coming... Well, hear me out. See what your think.
Haiper.link connects stories, favors, anything. It's useful in brainstorming, journaling, community building and more. To be honest I haven't decided on the exact application.
My goal is to let others fall in love with hypertext! That's why I'm making plugins and an API. The best application should be dreamt up by someone else. Perhaps you. That's why I need your feedback. Let me know what you think!
